STATUS: On the Bench

This is a rod that there was a lot of talk about at a recent Colorado Rodmakers Reunion (CRR).  The rod was determined to be a Dickerson but it didn’t match any of the specs for known rod models or tapers.
In the end it was determined to be a 8012 which closely matched the taper numbers of the only 8012 known to exist.   According to Harry Boyd of owner and rodmaker at Boyd Rod Company (www.canerods.com)  “It’s a powerful 5 weight which will cast a whole line in the right hands. Not at all parabolic much “faster” action. Fished with it extensively this past weekend and found that the very soft tip helps me prevent breaking off the 7x tippet I found necessary for spooky fish.”
